Where it all began...
Exuvium Productions was born from a journey of curiosity, resilience, and an unwavering passion for storytelling. At its heart is Olivia Rennie – known creatively as Autumn Sky – a medical student, filmmaker, and advocate for the untold narratives of science and medicine.
Autumn’s path has been anything but conventional. Beginning with a degree in Neuroscience, her early studies laid a foundation in understanding the intricate workings of the human body. Yet, it was her own intense patient experience and witnessing her brother’s medical challenges that ignited a deeper inquiry: What does it truly mean to be a doctor?
The answer could not be found in textbooks or laboratories alone. Instead, Autumn turned to a lifelong passion she had set aside – art. Embarking on a new academic and creative journey, she immersed herself in the world of writing, theatre, and filmmaking, obtaining formal training in screenwriting and production. These endeavours gave her the lens through which she could finally see medicine for what it truly is: a deeply human experience, rich with stories that are equal parts beautiful, challenging, and profoundly transformative.
As Autumn pursued her combined MD and PhD, her dedication to this intersection of art and medicine deepened. Her PhD research explores how film can serve as a powerful advocacy tool in healthcare and develop groundbreaking approaches for the filmmaking process itself. It was during this time that Exuvium Productions emerged – a company founded on a commitment to ethical, inclusive, and collaborative storytelling.
Today, Exuvium Productions continues to grow, earning a reputation for pushing boundaries both on and off the screen. Combining expertise in science and medicine with artistry and innovation in film, the company is dedicated to producing content that opens minds, changes hearts, and sparks meaningful dialogue. More than a name - Exuvium is a Philosophy.
Our name is more than a title – it’s a philosophy. “Exuvium” comes from the Latin word ‘exuviae,’ meaning “things stripped from a body.” In nature, it refers to the cast-off exoskeleton of an insect or reptile, a protective outer layer shed to reveal the vibrant, complex, and vulnerable creature beneath. This natural process serves as a guiding metaphor for our work, inspiring us to delve beneath the surface of medicine and science to uncover stories that often go unseen.
Our films strive to strip away the conventional layers of storytelling, exposing the raw, untold beauty and profound truths that lie beneath.
